Man Robbed After Internet Meeting

Windsor police say a man was robbed after arranging a meeting over the internet.

Police say the man met a woman at a home on St. Antoine St. off of College Ave. on the west side around 6pm on Tuesday. When the two entered the house, the man was confronted by a group of males and females who then forced him back into his own vehicle.

The man told police he was forced to drive to different banks and financial institutions around the city, where the suspects used his financial cards to withdraw money and make purchases.

The suspects then left the man and his vehicle near Central Park Athletics and ran from the area. The victim contacted police and met with officers at a business on Walker Rd. south of Cabana Rd. around 3am Wednesday, according to Windsor Police Sergeant Steve Betteridge. He reported the items that were taken.

Officers investigated an unrelated theft of car keys from the general Walker Rd location on Wednesday afternoon. That theft led officers to a motel on Howard Ave at Edinborough St. Further investigation led officers to link the suspects at that location to the original robbery report.

Betteridge says Miranda Ackroyd, 21, Giselle McKenna, 22, David Bullock, 26 and Jorge McConnell, 36, all of Windsor, were each charged with robbery, kidnapping, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

Police are using this incident to warn people about the potential danger of meeting a stranger online for any purpose. Many legitimate transactions are done that way, but police recommend using a public place to complete the transaction.
