Spitfires Stop Spirit 3-2, End Slide

The Windsor Spitfires needed overtime Saturday night to stop the Saginaw Spirit.

Mathew MacDougall capped off a natural hat trick to score the winner at 3:16 in overtime to beat the Spirit in Saginaw 3-2.

This snaps a seven-game losing streak. The Spits are in the final playoff position in the OHL Western Conference with 52 points.

The Spirit scored two goals in the first period. The first came from the stick of Mason Kuhn at 3:18, the second from D.J. Busdeker four-and-a-half minutes later.

MacDougall singlehandedly brought Windsor back into the game with two straight goals in the second period.

The third period was perfect with no scoring or penalties, forcing overtime. The Spits outshot the Spirit in that period 9-6.

Michael DiPietro had 19 saves in net for the Spitfires. Evan Cormier stopped 23 shots in goal for Saginaw.

Windsor returns home Sunday afternoon to face the Niagara IceDogs.
