Hospice Receives Donation Of Two Vans

The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County is the proud new owner of two brand new Dodge Caravans.

The vans were donated to the organization's transportation program by the Moroun family and the Ambassador Bridge Company.

Hospice Executive Director Carol Derbyshire says the donation will help them transport more people in the community to wellness programs and health care appointments.

"We pick them up and bring them in and then bring them back home. We also take patients to the doctors, to their chemo or radio treatments at the cancer centre," says Derbyshire.

The program currently has 16 volunteer drivers who log more than 6,000 hours annually. This is the second time the Moroun family has made a donation of vans to the hospice. Derbyshire says they made the initial donation that started the program 15 years ago.

"Years ago, Matty Moroun started this transportation program by giving us two vans back then and I hadn't even thought of a transportation program," says Derbyshire.

One of the new vans will stay in Windsor and the other will be based out of the Erie Shores Hospice Centre.
