Attendance Up At This Year's Auto Show In Detroit

The North American International Auto Show has put another successful event in the books with a total of 809,161 tickets sold.

That is a slight increase in attendance over 2017, which was 806,554 but falls shy of a record set in 2016 when 815,575 people attended.

On Sunday alone 100,605 people toured the displays.

"Detroit experienced every facet of the mobility industry over the past two weeks," says NAIAS Chair Ryan LaFontaine. "From startups showcasing their innovative technologies to C-suit discussions on a driverless future to industry giants standing on the world stage revealing brand-defining products and technologies, NAIAS was an incredible platform for one of the most exciting times in the history of our industry."

More than 5,000 journalists from 60 countries covered the event where 52 vehicles made their world debut.

Building on last year's success, the number of startups increased nearly 40% with 200 different brands presenting 57 startups.

It is estimated the auto show contributed $480-million to the regional economy, or by some accounts, the equivalent of holding two Super Bowls a year in Detroit. That is a $30-million increase from the year before.
