Honda Accord Named Best Car Of The Year At NAIAS

Honda marks the 40th year of its popular Accord with a major award at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The Accord, which Honda launched in 1976, won the Car of the Year award Monday morning at Cobo Hall. It edged out the Kia Stinger and the Toyota Camry.

The Volvo XC60 was named the Utility Vehicle of the Year, and the Lincoln Navigator won Best Truck honours.

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Honda Odyssey were also nominated in the utility category, and the Chevrolet Colorado and Ford Expedition competed for the truck of the year.

Last year, the Windsor-made Chrysler Pacifica was named best Utility Vehicle of the Year.

The awards are voted on by 60 jurors in the U.S. and Canada.

Monday afternoon, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne is expected to speak to the media.

The show opens to the public on Saturday, January 20 and wraps up one week later on Sunday, January 28. Last year, 806,554 people attended the show in Detroit.
