Flooding Affects ORs at Windsor Regional Hospital

Officials at Windsor Regional Hospital's Metropolitan campus are dealing with flooding in two of its operating rooms.

WRH public affairs director Gisele Seguin says in a memo sent to staff that two of its operating rooms flooded after an air-handling system broke down.

The memo says an exterior vent malfunctioned, resulting in cold air entering the system and freezing the pipes. Once the heat was turned up, technicians discovered the leaks and the flooding occurred in Operating Rooms 1 and 2.

A heating and cooling company has been called in to fix the problem.

Seguin says the other operating rooms are functioning normally.

Medical and nursing leadership at the Met campus are taking a look at the operating room schedule for the rest of Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to minimize the effect on patients. Seguin says surgeons, anesthesiologists and support staff may expect room changes, changed schedules and the shifting of non-scheduled procedures between the Met and Ouellette campuses.

Additional updates will be provided as available.
