Hospital Expects Outbreak To End By Saturday

Windsor Regional Hospital is expecting the flu outbreak at both hospital sites to be over by Saturday.

Hospital officials declared an outbreak in the 6N unit at Met campus this week after two hospital-acquired cases of respiratory infection were reported. One case has been confirmed as influenza B. Three staff members on the unit have also been affected by the virus.

However, the hospital says there are currently no patients on the unit in precautions for respiratory illness and the outbreak is anticipated to be over by the end of the week.

At the Ouellette campus, there were four cases of hospital-acquired illness and five staff members affected by the virus on the 7 Medical unit. However, there are no hospital acquired cases left in the unit. There are seven patients on the unit that are experiencing respiratory illness but those cases came from the community. The hospital expects the outbreak situation to be over by Saturday.

Hospital staff are being advised to continue to take precautions to avoid any further spread.
