Changes Made To Bright Lights Windsor

The City of Windsor says it's Bright Lights Windsor event has been so popular, it is opening the gates an hour earlier each night.

The lights will be turned on at 5:30pm, instead of 6:30pm.

"Some families would like to come out a little bit earlier, they have little ones and would love to get there a little bit earlier so they don't have to stay as late. And we think with the number of people coming out, spreading out the hours will also help," says Jan Wilson, corporate leader for parks, recreation and culture and facilities.

The gates will close at 10pm.

While special programming and events will continue to go ahead each night from Thursday to Saturday, the city is discontinuing the horse and carriage rides.

"With the number of people in park, in discussions with the operator, a decision was made to discontinue them for safety reasons. We would rather not take the risk that someone would dart out and get hurt," says Wilson.

Bright Lights Windsor runs until January 7, 2018.
