International Students to Get a Taste of Christmas

The University of Windsor wants its international students to experience Christmas time in the city.

The university's International Student Centre is giving students a chance to celebrate the holiday through its annual Host for the Holidays program, where university faculty, staff, fellow students and local residents volunteer to host international students for holiday gatherings.

The ISC says Host for the Holidays is a great opportunity for international students to experience a traditional Canadian Christmas celebration.

U of W has set aside December 24, 25 and 26 for the program.

With the fall semester about to go into the exam period, some international students may be remaining on campus throughout the holiday break, without the means to travel home to spend the break with family and friends. U of W says programs like this allow students to meet people and experience the holidays even when separated from loved ones.

The university says 17% of their student body is from outside of Canada, representing nearly 100 countries.

Volunteers are being sought to open their homes to international students. The deadline to be a volunteer for the winter holiday break, and for students interested in participating in the host program, is Friday, December 15.
