Local Shelters Benefit From Donation

Two local shelters for women are benefiting from a $2000 donation from Unifor.

It's part of Unifor's program to support women who are survivors of domestic abuse. A total $146,000 donated across the country.

"We're very glad to help and assist these women that have such a huge need," says Sue McKinnon with Unifor Local 444.

Lady Laforet with the Welcome Centre for Women says the money will go toward their drop-in program that offers social support for women.

"We find that it tends to be women who have made their way either through our shelter system or another shelter system who come for everything from assistance with forms to just having a space to have a meal," says Laforet.

The House of Sophrosyne also received $2000. It will go towards the shelters capital campaign to renovate a new shelter for women and their children.
