Bright Lights Turn On Tonight

Tonight's the night the city flips the switch on its Bright Lights Windsor Festival.

"This is going to be more special than just the mayor plugging in a plug into a socket, this is going to be a real fun opening ceremony, we want to get the crowd involved as well," says Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.

The opening ceremony kicks off at 6:30pm tonight in Jackson Park.

"People know that we're involved in something right now with the City of Detroit so we've connected a theme to the opening ceremonies that plugs into that whole theme and the work that we're doing with the City of Detroit," says Dilkens.

Crews have been working for weeks on the set up in Jackson Park installing thousands of lights throughout the park. At the centre of the display is a large 64 ft. tree.

"It's just massive and it has 10,000 branches in the tree. It is just a magnificent holiday tree, it's going to light up, it moves to the music and there's a whole show that goes around all of the lighting in the park," says Dilkens.

The festival runs until January 7, 2017. Special programming, carriage rides and vendors are scheduled for every Thursday through Saturday throughout the festival.
