Confusion Over Parking App's Name Results In Change

Windsor's Parking Compliance and Enforcement Supervisor says the city's new parking app works "beautifully", but confusion over its name will mean a change in the new year.

The company providing the app is called Passport Parking Inc. Its Canadian division is called Passport Canada.

A release from the city makes a point of explaining the company has nothing to do with actual citizenship or travel passports.

"The name is a bit confusing right now, but the service is great," says Bill Kralovensky. "I've used their 'Park Detroit' version, and it works beautifully."

The new service will start December 18, but the app is downloadable now.

Signs are going up on city parking meters and pay units directing those interested in using the app to log onto www.ppprkca.com on their smartphone. Although it will not replace coin meters, it will allow residents the option of paying with their credit card online.

"It's another option, and one that we feel is more in keeping with the times," says Kralovensky. "Everyone seems to have a smartphone these days, but not everyone has change in their pocket."
