Spits Top Frontenacs 5-4 In A Shootout

The Windsor Spitfires rallied at the last minute to beat the Kingston Frontenacs 5-4 in a shootout on Friday.

Aaron Luchuk drew first blood for Windsor with a goal 13:41 into the game, and the Spits were able to hold a 1-0 lead heading into the second period. However, Kingston battled back in the second to score two back-to-back goals in the first four minutes.

Lev Starikov tied the game for the Spitfires with a goal after 4:56, but the Frontenacs took a 3-2 lead, scoring just before the end of the frame.  Kingston scored again 13:50 into the third to give Windsor a two goal deficit.

Logan Brown and Cole Purboo both scored for the Spitfires with just over a minute left to play to force overtime. After no scoring in OT, Luchuk and Jake Smith both scored in the shootout to win it for Windsor.

Spitfires goaltender Michael DiPietro made 23 saves out of 27 shots on net.

The Spitfires are back on the ice on Thursday when they take on the North Bay Battalion at the WFCU Centre. The puck drops at 7:05pm.
