Slow Down! The OPP Is Watching You

The Ontario Provincial Police in Essex County is again imploring drivers to slow down.

Over a three-hour period, officers laid 59 charges for speeding on county roads.

The OPP carried out a speed enforcement blitz Monday and Tuesday.

Two other drivers were caught going more than 50 km/hr over the speed limit and were charged with stunt driving.

"Enforcement efforts undertaken during the past two days underscore the importance for all motorists to comply with our posted speed signs. These signs are not a suggestion," says Detachment Commander Glen Miller. "The consequences are very serious but more important, the likelihood of you safely reaching your destination becomes limited."

Over the Thanksgiving long weekend, police laid 227 charges for speeding, and 63 for hazardous moving violations, the highest in the West Region.
