Flood Watch Issued For Essex Region

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch due to heavy rainfall expected Sunday afternoon and evening.

The conservation authority says that rainfall is predicted to range from 20 mm to 30 mm, or possibly higher if thunderstorms occur.

This rainfall would be on top of the 15 mm to 25 mm of rain that has already fallen in the Essex region over the last 24 hours.

According to the flood watch advisory, wind gusts may reach up to 65 km/hr during possible thunderstorms. Hail may also occur.

People should take extra caution and avoid rivers, ditches, streams and shoreline areas. The conservation authority says the combination of slippery banks and fast moving water can be extremely dangerous.

The strong winds may also result in waves flooding over break walls and shorelines.

The advisory is in effect until 9am on Monday.
