Thinking About Black Friday Sales? Try Amherstburg

When shoppers make their Black Friday plans, merchants in Amherstburg want them to consider their town.

The Amherstburg Chamber of Commerce is holding its own Black Friday event. It will run November 24, 25, and 26.

"Being a border town, Amherstburg businesses feel the effect of the U.S. Black Friday more than most towns which are a greater distance from the border," says Carolyn Davies, chamber president. "As the season shifts, every community that benefits from additional visitor traffic in the summer feels the effect."

Davies says shoppers benefit by being able to take advantage of sales without the cost of travelling across the border, paying the higher rate of exchange, and taxes.

"Black Friday benefits our business by bringing together the local businesses and having one big event, bringing in old and new customers and giving them some much-appreciated savings," says The Village Shoppe owner, Lynn Sinasac.

Amherstburg is the only community in Essex County holding a Black Friday event to encourage shoppers to stay local.
