Attempted Murder Charge Laid In East End Shooting

A 42-year-old Windsor man is now facing a number of charges, including attempted murder, after another man was shot in Windsor’s east end.

The Windsor Police Service says on Wednesday shortly before 5:30pm, two men who are known to each other met up by chance at the McGaffey Pharmacy on Tecumseh Rd.  The two became involved in an argument over a longstanding dispute and they went outside to fight. During the fight, a gun was pulled out and one of the men involved in the fight, a 35-year-old from Windsor, was shot.

The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries to his hand and abdomen, and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Ryan Murphy, 42, of Windsor was arrested in the area without incident. Police say they seized some methamphetamine and a knife during the arrest.

Witnesses told officers they saw an item being thrown into a white pick-up truck that had been driven away before police arrived. Officers found the truck nearby on George Ave. with blood on the outside, as well as suspected bullet holes. The vehicle was seized by police, and officers have since recovered a loaded firearm from the truck, which is believed to have been used in the shooting.

Police announced on Friday that Murphy is now charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a prohibited weapon, breach of probation, possession of a restricted firearm without a licence, and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The Windsor Police Service Major Crimes Branch is continuing to investigate the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS).
