One person is in police custody after a man suffered a gunshot wound in Windsor's east end.
The Windsor Police Service says officers responded to Tecumseh Rd. E between Tourangeau Rd. and Aubin Rd. on Wednesday around 5:30pm.
Police have confirmed that a shooting took place in the area, with witnesses saying it happened near the front entrance to McGaffey Pharmacy.
Jay, an employee at a pizzeria in the strip mall across the street from the pharmacy, says he was just arriving for work when the commotion drew his attention.
"I saw two people fighting in front of the pharmacy," says Jay. "One guy, he just pushed the other guy. We couldn't clearly see what happened from over here, but we heard a gunshot."
Officers arrived soon after, having been called to the location on reports of a fight. Jay says he saw someone stumbling toward the side of the pharmacy and it was clear he had been shot.
"The guy who got shot, he ran into the parking lot next to the pharmacy. I guess he fell down over there, and he was moved to the ambulance," says Jay.
The male victim was rushed to hospital with gunshot injuries. He remains in hospital but his condition is unknown at this time.
A suspect has since been arrested in connection to the shooting, and police say there are no other suspects outstanding. Officers say there is no risk to public safety.
Police say charges are pending.
Tecumseh Rd. E was closed in both directions between Tourangeau Rd. and Aubin Rd. while officers conducted an investigation. The road has since been reopened.
