ERCA Issues Flood Watch for Rest of Weekend

Rain and high winds in the weekend forecast are prompting a flood watch.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch for Essex County starting Saturday evening and through the early morning hours of Monday.

A cold front is resulting in increased winds and rain moving across the region.

Sustained winds of up to 50 km/hr with gusts between 70 and 90 km/hr are possible, beginning from the south-southwest. These winds could cause beach erosion, damaging waves and a possibility of flooding along the Lake Erie shoreline in Leamington, Kingsville, Amherstburg and Essex, along with the south and west shores of Pelee Island.

Winds are expected to shift direction on Sunday, coming from the west and northwest. With that, the same conditions could be in store for the Lake St. Clair shorelines of Lakeshore and Tecumseh.

Environment Canada has already issued a special weather statement for most of southern Ontario due to this weather system.
