Owen Sound Attacks Spitfires 9-2

The Owen Sound Attack lived up to its name in a 9-2 drubbing of the Windsor Spitfires Saturday.

The Attack pick up two points to increase their total to eight in the OHL Midwest Division. The Spitfires drop to 4-2-1 with nine points in the West Division.

Owen Sound picked up four goals in the first period alone. Two of those came from Jonah Gadjovich while Nick Suzuki and Aiden Dudas supplied the rest of the scoring in the opening frame.

Alan Lysczarczyk added to the Attack lead with two straight goals to begin the second period. Windsor got on the board at 5:43 in the middle stanza on a goal by Cole Purboo, his second of the year. Owen Sound wasn't finished yet in the period as they scored three more goals before the second intermission. Markus Phillips and Matthew Struthers connected while Dudas scored again.

That was it for Spitfires' goalie Brook Baier, who was pulled at that point and replaced with Michael DiPietro. DiPietro stopped all nine shots he faced in relief.

Windsor's William Sirman provided the only scoring in the third period, his first goal of the year.

Zack Bowman had 13 saves out of 15 for Owen Sound in the win. Baier had 24 saves for the Spitfires.

Windsor returns home Thursday night and will raise its Memorial Cup championship banner before playing the rival London Knights. The Attack travel to Kitchener for a Thanksgiving Monday matinee against the Rangers.
