Tips For Filling Out Disaster Relief Applications

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs has a few tips for residents looking to apply to the disaster relief fund.

The ministry held two information sessions Thursday to help residents filling out applications. They say residents and small business owners need to keep all their receipts, read the application carefully and fill it out completely.

Ministry spokesperson Richard Stromberg says one of the biggest issues they face is receiving incomplete applications, without signatures or vital pieces of documentation.

"I think the important thing is to take the time, do the work carefully, document carefully so that you have all of the information required to submit a complete application," says Stromberg.

South Windsor resident Steven Bauer says it's difficult to navigate insurance and the program and different levels of eligibility.

"You can deal with the flood, sometimes its the things you have to deal with after the fact that's more frustrating than anything else," says Bauer.

The ministry spokesperson says its important to understand that the program is meant to reimburse basic, essential costs not replace all that was lost.

To find out more about eligibility for the program visit the Ministry of Municipal Affairs website. The deadline for apply for the disaster relief program is January 5, 2018.
