Charges Laid After Woman Followed, Assaulted Downtown

Police in Windsor have laid charges after a woman was assaulted near the bus depot.

Officers were called to the 300-block of Chatham St. W around 1pm Sunday where they arrested a 35-year-old Windsor man.

The woman says she was waiting for the bus at the Transit Windsor bus depot when a man she did not know started pacing near her. She asked him to stop, but he persisted, so she walked into the depot.

Despite her pleas for him to stop, the man continued to follow her through the building. Outside again, he began to shout at her and touched her inappropriately.

When she managed to put a little distance between herself and her assailant, she called 911. That is when she says the man started punching and kicking her.

Police arrested a suspect without incident. He faces sexual assault and assault charges.

The victim suffered minor injuries and did not need medical attention.

Investigators ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have information to call 519-255-6700 ext. 4830, Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 (TIPS), or leave a tip online at www.catchcrooks.com.
