Spitfires To Double Free Game Day Parking

Windsor Spitfires fans should find it easier to park in a free space when the season starts this week.

The team announced Monday afternoon that they are doubling the number of free parking spaces at the WFCU Centre for game days. The 900 spaces being added are in the overflow lot, also known as the Lear Lot off Lauzon Rd. This lot was first utilized for the WFCU Centre and its hosting of the Memorial Cup this spring.

This doubles the total number of free spaces in the lot to 1,800. Reserved lots, which are closer to the arena entrances, are accessible for season ticket holders and fans with parking passes.

Spitfires general manager Warren Rychel says convenience is the idea behind expanding the free parking for fans.

“We're very happy to be able to offer double the free parking,” says Rychel in a statement. “Fans will now enjoy less searching and better traffic flow while still having lots of great shuttle options on game nights.”

For those who still prefer not to drive to the games, free shuttle service is still available from Average Joes on Lauzon Rd., as well as Johnny Shotz and the Spitfire Pub in Tecumseh.

Transit Windsor offers a shuttle service from the east parking lot of Tecumseh Mall on game days. The cost is $3 round trip and the buses leave 90 minutes before faceoff.

The Spitfires begin their defence of the Memorial Cup Thursday night when they host the Saginaw Spirit. Puck drop is 7:05pm.
