Decision On Recycling Pick-Up Coming

City of Windsor officials expect to make a decision Monday whether to resume recycling pickup.

It was suspended almost three weeks ago when rainfall flooded more than 6,200 Windsor homes and hundreds more outside the city. Last week, city officials said in a release they would consider resuming service if all went well over the weekend.

The city says contracted crews are making a dent in the mountains of flood debris dotting the landscape. Where the flooding was heaviest, in wards one, six and ten, progress is being made. However, the city stresses there is still much more to be done.

So far, more than 4,000 tonnes of flood material has been collected. That compares to the 1,600 tonnes picked up after last year's flood.

The Public Drop-Off Depot on Central Ave. will return to regular operations on Monday.

While crews continue to dump flood debris off at the former General Motors Transmission Plant site, they say the lot is not for public use.

Unfortunately, the city has not been able to give a timeline for complete clean-up but says all extra resources are focused on the problem, and crews are working as quickly as possible.
