Hospital Preparing For Future Flood

Windsor Regional Hospital is taking steps to minimize future flooding at the hospital.

Last week, the hospital had to shut down its emergency room at the Met Campus because of flooding.

Now CEO David Musyj says he's purchased the hospital some supplies to help block water from spreading and hopefully minimize damage if the hospital should flood again.

"It wont prevent the water from coming up but what it will do is prevent it from spreading like it did the other day," says Musyj. "We can possibly spare a lot of expensive equipment from damage and also make the clean up that much faster."

The hospital is now equiped with Quick Dams that can be easily put out at doorways and near drains to help pool the water in one place. The product starts flat and then absorbs the water and enlarges creating a dam to block water moving forward.

"What we're going to be asking staff to do if this occurs is to lay this in front of a door and if need be even stack two on top of each other," says Musyj.

The dam will dry out and is reusable. The hospital has spent approximately $4,000 on Quick Dams for both locations.
