Golf Tournament Raises $10K For Cancer Patient Assistance

A local cancer survivor's efforts have helped to raise $10,000 to aid cancer patients during treatment.

Sarah White, organizer of the "Drive Out Cancer Classic" golf tournament, presented a cheque to the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation on Friday.  The money was raised during the golf tournament on August 14 at Sutton Creek Golf Club, and will directly benefit the foundation's Patient Assistance Fund.

"I myself am a cancer survivor and I went through London's Patient Assistance Fund when I was going through my reconstruction for my double mastectomy," says White. "I'm happy and healthy now, and anything I can do is just great... it's hugely important to do the small things to help other people."

This is the eighth year for the Motor City Community Credit Union sponsored golf tournament, which has contributed a total of $105,000 to the Patient Assistance Fund.

In addition, White also presented an additional $4,000 to Little Hands Kids For A Cause, which assists children with life threatening illnesses across Windsor and Essex County.  Little Hands raised another $900 during the golf tournament through donations and t-shirt sales.

“It's very rewarding to be able to help others during their battle with this terrible disease," says White.
