New Security Measures at WRH- Ouellette Campus

Windsor Regional Hospital has a new protocol in place for mental health patients after a stabbing at the hospital last month.

All patients returning to the ward at the Ouellette campus from a day pass will now be subject to a search with a metal detector prior to entering the hospital. They will then be escorted by security to the mental health unit where they will be searched again.

All visitors to the unit will also be subject to scanning by metal detectors at the unit.

Hospital CEO David Musyj says they felt these were the appropriate measures to keep staff and patients safe.

"The fact we're doing it for everybody, hopefully will provide comfort for those individuals to know that they are safe when they're on the unit and they're loved ones are safe while they are on the unit," Musyj.

Musyj says they have also arranged to have security personnel on the mental health unit at all times.
