Hospital To Use Metal Detectors

Windsor Regional Hospital will be using hand held metal detectors on mental health patients returning to the hospital from a day pass.

The hospital held a meeting Tuesday morning with staff after a stabbing by a male patient Saturday evening.

As a result of the meeting, the hospital is putting enhanced procedures in place for patients returning to the mental health unit or being transferred to the unit from the emergency department. The procedure will include the use of hand held metal detectors on the unit and possibly elsewhere.

Hospital CEO David Musyj says there will be further recommendations to finalize the the process for patients returning to the floor after a day pass. They will also be reviewing the process currently in place to clear a patient for a day pass.
