OPP Urge Drivers To Be Mindful Of Fatal Crashes Or Be Charged

Police are urging people to be more courteous about posting and live streaming fatal accidents on social media.

The OPP responded to a fatal collision July 30 on Hwy. 401 near Chatham where a mother and son from Amherstburg were killed after a massive pileup.

Authorities say that motorists used their cellphones to notify the world about the deaths before police were able to confirm who was inside the pickup and make arrangements to notify family.

The OPP say death notification by social media is not right and are asking people to think before they post such delicate situations.

Police also remind drivers who use their cellphones at collision scenes that they could be charged with distracted driving, fined $490 and be given three demerit points.
