Councillor Resigns From Kingsville Town Council

Sandy McIntyre has handed in her resignation from Kingsville Town Council.

McIntyre was first elected in the 2010 municipal election. In 2014, she won a second term. Monday night, she handed in her letter to Mayor Nelson Santos.

"I am getting older. I'm pooped right now, and with my husband sick, you know it hasn't been a fun time," she says.

McIntyre is suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD. Her husband has lung cancer.

"I have enjoyed being a Kingsville councillor and will miss serving our community," reads her letter to Santos. "Thanks to you and the rest of council for understanding and your patience."

McIntyre believes the town is in a good place but says developing the waterfront will continue to be a challenge.

"We have to buy certain amounts of land, and it just will take quite a bit of work, but it'll be really wonderful once it's all done," she says.

There is no word yet if Kingsville will hold a byelection, appoint a replacement on the council, or leave the seat vacant until the next election in the fall of 2018. Discussion on those options is expected to come up at council's next regular meeting on August 28.
