Soapy Prankster Targets Leamington Fountain

As mischief goes, at least it was clean.

The area around the fountain in downtown Leamington was filled with bubbles early Friday morning after someone put detergent in the water.

The scene was captured on video by MIX 96.7 morning show co-host Morgan Ryan.

Leamington Mayor John Paterson says this soap opera has been running too long, and more often than he’d like.

“It usually happens two or three times a year when somebody dumps a bunch of soap suds to the fountain that’s up in front of the Leamington library,” says Paterson. “Obviously it justs mixes with the water and the motion and creates huge amounts of bubbles and a lot of work for our town staff to clean up the mess.”

Paterson says the foamy prank may seem like good clean humour to some, but he’s not amused.

“Very disrespectful to the Italian community, they were the ones who donated that fountain to the municipality. It’s disappointing.”
