Kingsville Man Drowns In Lake Erie

A Kingsville man has drowned after trying to assist a child who was struggling to swim in Lake Erie.

The Ontario Provincial Police say on Tuesday around 4:45pm, officers responded to a report of a missing boater in the waters of Lake Erie near Cedar Island in Kingsville.

Police say 41-year-old Tyson Koehn and four children were out on the water in small boat, when one of the children began to have trouble swimming.  Koehn went into the water to help, but began to struggle himself and went under.

All four children were rescued by a passing boater and a passerby who was on shore and swam out to assist.

The OPP Marine Unit, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Trenton, a United States Coast Guard vessel, and a Canadian Coast Guard search and rescue crew from Amherstburg responded to search for Koehn, who was located in the water a short time later. Paramedics performed CPR and he was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not released any further information.
