Police Taser Man Wielding Butcher Knife

Charges have been laid after police were forced to use a Taser to subdue a man wielding a butcher knife in downtown Windsor.

The Windsor Police Service says on Sunday around 2:30am, officers were patrolling the area of Ouellette Ave. and Wyandotte St. when they saw a man yelling at a large group of pedestrians who were running from the area.

Police say the man was swinging his arms wildly and yelling obscenities as he began to strike a phone booth with the butcher knife.

The man refused to listen to police when they demanded that he drop the knife, and officers used a Taser to place him under arrest.

Police say the man continued to yell at the officers and threatened to kill one of them.  He was then taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries before being being brought to police head headquarters.

As a result, a 32-year-old man from Windsor has been charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, uttering a death threat and breach of probation.
