Beautifying Kingsville One Metre At A Time

Kingsville Council has approved a $1.9-million reconstruction of Park St. from Dock Rd. to Division Rd.

The four month project is $250,000 under budget, and starts the first week of September.

Mayor Nelson Santos says the 500 m stretch will connect Mettawas Park to Lakeside Park with a new trail, new sidewalks, and a new water line.

"Provide a safer area for our residents, our cyclists, our commuters that are going there, and enjoying the parkland and waterfront, and providing a space that they feel comfortable in," says Santos.

The new stretch will also connect to the Chrysler Greenway corridor.

Santos says the work has been delayed since 2009 because of a lack of money, but the project received a $1-million grant.

"That is a significant amount of cost for a small area, because we're making all these new improvements with the water line, allow for the increased walking and cycling, the active transportation that we've been encouraging," he says.

Santos says the final surfacing won't be done until the spring to spare the topping from the harshness of winter.

"We'll wait through the winter for the spring season to be able to put on the final coat of asphalt for the clean project to be officially completed," says Santos.
