Three Facing Fraud Charges

Three people are facing charges for allegedly driving a stolen vehicle around Windsor while peddling counterfeit US money.

On Wednesday, July 19, 2017 police were called to a business on Huron Church Rd. for a fraud report. The officers were advised that a counterfeit US $100 bill had been passed at the business. They were given a description of a suspect as well as a licence plate number of a vehicle. Police soon discovered the vehicle was reported stolen in Toronto.

At least one other store in the area reported that someone had tried to pass the counterfeit bills off at their establishment. Later, police received another report of counterfeit bills used on Wyandotte St. W near Rankin Ave.

The suspect was spotted walking south on Randolph St. near Wyandotte St. with another male. The males entered the stolen vehicle and police conducted a vehicle stop.

Five male occupants were arrested for being in possession of the stolen vehicle. Two males were released without charges. A 22-year-old Toronto man is charged with possession of counterfeit money, and uttering counterfeit money. A 23-year-old male from Toronto is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of counterfeit money, and uttering counterfeit money. A 22-year-old from Windsor is charged with possession of counterfeit money.

The Windsor Police Service would like to remind all business operators to take the time to inspect cash to make every effort to determine its legitimacy, especially when dealing with higher dollar amounts.
