OLG Makes $3.5-Million Payment to Windsor

The popularity of Caesars Windsor has resulted in a hefty payment for the city of Windsor.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has issued a non-tax revenue payment of over $3.5-million to the city of Windsor, the home of Caesars Windsor. This is a quarterly payment issued to the city covering the first quarter of 2017 (April to June).

Since the casino's opening in 1994, the province of Ontario has issued roughly $41.5-million in non-tax revenue payments to the city.

"OLG gaming revenue provides essential funding to host communities which offers greater ability to invest in infrastructure projects as well as important local programs and services that benefit families," says Ontario Minister of Finance Charles Sousa in a statement.

Caesars Windsor has been a centrepiece for gaming and entertainment in the Windsor-Detroit region since its debut. The addition of a second hotel tower and a 5,000 seat Colosseum in 2008 has drawn many A-list performers to the venue from around the world.

The Ontario government receives about $2-billion a year in revenue from OLG. Proceeds from lottery sales help support hospitals and other government entities across the province.

The Ontario legislature has set aside $38-million for fiscal year 2017-18 in support of its program to help problem gamblers, as well as problem gambling research, treatment and prevention.
