UPDATE: Jackson Park Walk Rescheduled

Fed up with the bad behaviour of some in Jackson Park, a Windsor woman is organizing a walk of solidarity.

The walk, originally scheduled for Saturday, is being rescheduled due to the threat of rain, according to organizer Jennie Berkley.

Those interested in participating are now asked to meet Saturday, July 29 in the parking lot off Tecumseh Rd. between Ouellette Ave. and McDougall St. at 6:30pm. The walk will start at 7pm.

Berkley, who likes to walk her German Shepherd in the park, decided to organize the walk after she was accosted several times by a large group of boys and young men.

"Kicking soccer balls and aggressively throwing sticks towards dogs, blocking park paths and park access," says Berkley describing some of the behaviour she has come across.

Berkley says she has called the police a couple of times, but was told aside from dispatching someone from the auxiliary service, there is not much police can do since it is a public space.

She says she is not the only one who has been harassed, and she is afraid someone is going to get hurt.

"It's dangerous," she says. "When kids are yelling at him, and boys are throwing things at him, he [her dog] goes into a protective stance, and I'm worried that one of these days one of these instances is going to end up in a dog bite."

Berkley says a friend has set up a Facebook page called Friends of Jackson Park and she has been surprised by the support she has received online.
