CK Celebrates Canada 150 -- Tilbury, Wheatley

Residents in the Tilbury and Wheatley area are getting ready to kick off the Canada Day long weekend with several celebrations.

In Tilbury, Doug Demers with the Tilbury Kinsmen says they have planned out a full weekend of fun for all ages. It all starts with the Kinsmen selling fireworks out of their office at 2pm on Friday.

"It'll be our first attempt selling the fireworks for our July 1 weekend, so hopefully everybody comes out and supports us," says Demers.

That will be followed up with the Kinsmen Parade on Queen St. starting at 7pm on Friday and a free fireworks show, which will start at dusk in Memorial Park Friday night.

On Saturday (Canada Day), the streets of downtown Tilbury will come alive again for a 11am to 5pm.

"There will be a car show on the main street, live entertainment, kids crafts, face painters, and more," says Demers. "There will also be a beer garden outside on the main street, so it'll be one of your opportunities to drink -- legally -- on the main street of Tilbury."

Anyone who's attending is encouraged to bring a lawn chair or a blanket.

For residents in Wheatley, there will also be a Canada Day BBQ starting at 12pm on Saturday across from the Legion.

It will include opening ceremonies, live music, and lots of activities for the kids.

The BBQ will be free while supplies last and donations to the food bank are also welcome.
