Public Bus Service To Start In LaSalle This September

LaSalle and Transit Windsor have finalized an agreement to provide town residents with bus service.

Mayor Ken Antaya says the papers have not been signed yet.

"It's just a formality at this point," he says. "The deal is basically in place. Council has given authorization through resolution."

Already bus stops are being installed around LaSalle, and Antaya says the service will start the day after Labour Day.

"To enhance the ridership is that we're going to be providing the service from the introduction date, the day after Labour Day, to the end of the year at no cost to the residents," says Antaya.

The town will have two buses and maintain the route at the expense of $750,000 in the first year, and $300,000 each year after that.

Antaya says it is difficult to predict ridership right now.

"The seniors need accessibility to medical facilities," he says. "As a maturing community, we were looking at it, and felt that it is the proper time to introduce this type of service."

The bus will start charging fares in January.
