Folk Festival To Bring The Talent To Kingsville

The fourth annual Kingsville Folk Festival is gearing up to be the event's biggest year yet.

Organizers announced the official line-up of performers at Pelee Island Winery on Wednesday, which include Cowboy Junkies, Sylvia Tyson, Jimmy Rankin, Harry Manx and a lot more.  Over the three day event in August, around 30 performers will perform on five stages at Lakeside Park in Kingsville.

"It's pretty Canadian oriented this year, which is a great thing. Instead of getting one headliner, we've got four or five this year, so we're excited," says festival producer John Law. "The big focus this year is on youth, and we're celebrating family."

He says the event drew around 6,000-8,000 people in 2016, and it is steadily growing each year.

Michele Law, another festival producer, says the weather can have an impact on how many people attend the event, however, she says most people aren't deterred by a little rain.

"A folk festival is the kinda place where people just pull up their hoods and sit down in their chair, no matter what the weather [brings]," she says. "They want to be there for the music and the feel."

The Kingsville Folk Festival runs from August 11-13 and tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-838-3006 or visiting www.kingsvillefolkfest.org.

A portion of the proceeds from the festival will be donated to the MAY FUNd project (Music and Arts for Youth), which helps to enrich the lives of local youth through access to the arts and cultural education.
