Residents with mobility issues can hit the sand this weekend at Lakeview Park's West Beach in Lakeshore.
The town installed new 6 ft wide mats, which extend about 200 ft from the pavilion towards the water and along the waterfront.
Lakeshore officials say the matting allows access to the waterfront for those who use wheelchairs, have stability issues, difficulty walking in sand, or use strollers.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is deeming just three local beaches unsafe for swimming this weekend, due to high levels of bacteria: Colchester Beach, Mettawas Beach and Hillman Marsh Beach.
