Boughner coached the Windsor Spitfires from 2006 until 2010, before leaving to become an assistant with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He returned to the team after one season and coached until 2015.

He led the Spits to back-to-back Memorial Cups in 2009 and 2010. Boughner spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach in San Jose under former Panthers coach Peter DeBoer.

The Panthers will hold a news conference at 2pm Monday afternoon to introduce Boughner to the media.
