Public Meeting Wednesday On Cabana Rd. Improvements

Just as construction is set to begin on the first phase of improvements along Cabana Rd. in Windsor, the city is holding a public meeting.

The first stretch of road that will be dug up is from east of Howard Ave. to the west of Provincial Rd.

Residents can go to the meeting at Roseland Public School at 5pm Wednesday to find out how the project will affect them. City of Windsor engineering staff, officials from Windsor Utilities Commission, RC Spencer Associates, and Amico Construction will be there to take questions.

Earlier this year, the city began expropriating property along Cabana Rd. in anticipation of construction. This stretch of the project is expected to cost more than $4.2-million, but all six phases could cost $46-million.

The road will be expanded to four lanes. All six phases between Walker Rd. and Huron Church Rd. should be complete by 2023.

Traffic along Cabana Rd. is expected to increase once the new acute care hospital is finished on County Rd. 42 near Windsor's airport.

The new hospital could take seven to ten years to build. Construction on the project was approved in the last provincial budget.
