The former chair of the Fox News Network has died at the age of 77.
Roger Ailes' family confirmed the death Thursday morning to Fox News. Ailes was the founding CEO of the network.
The death prompted tributes on Twitter.

The network launched in 1996 and had 17-million cable subscribers. As of February 2015, the network was available to 94.7-million households in the U.S.
Ailes left the network last July amid allegation of sexual harassment. He was paid $40-million by Fox News to leave.
There is no word on Ailes' cause of death.
