WPS Nab Speeding Motorcycle Rider

Windsor police have charged a motorcycle rider with failing to stop for police.

Officers saw a speeding motorcycle with a rear passenger near Riverside Dr. and Goyeau St. Sunday night and caught up to it at Strabane Ave.

Officers activated their emergency lights and siren but the driver continued driving eastbound at a high rate of speed.

Police say the motorcycle drove onto the grass, then along a sidewalk, dangerously close to pedestrians and then back onto the road.

In the interest of public safety, officers chose not to pursue the motorcycle but later located it in a parking lot near Lassaline Ave. and East Gate Estates, as well as a male driver and female passenger.

The 45-year-old man from Windsor was arrested at the scene and was allegedly found to be in possession of marijuana and methamphetamine. He also had outstanding arrest warrants.

In addition to the arrest warrants, he faces new charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle, four counts of operating a vehicle while disqualified, breach of recognizance, possession of suspected marijuana, possession of suspected methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and numerous other road offences.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4112 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS).
