Tecumseh Receives Grant For Flood Mitigation

The Town of Tecumseh has been given a grant of $806,000 to help with flooding issues within the municipality.

"It will be applied to improving our infiltration, especially rain water, storm water into the sanitary system," says Mayor Gary McNamara. "It's continuing to invest in improving the infrastructure and mitigating the flood issues."

The grant comes from the Ontario Small Communities Investment Fund and is on top of the usual allotment the town receives on an annual basis.

McNamara says the grant will help fund the $3-million project to improve the infiltration system, particularly in Wards 1 and 2. Work will be completed this summer and could start withing five to six weeks.

More than 1300 residents reported flooding on on September 29 when 110 mm of rain fell in a two hour span. Over 6,000 residents in Windsor-Essex reported flooding on the same day.
