Team Essex-Windsor EMS Looking To Strike Gold Overseas

An Essex-Windsor EMS team representing Ontario and Canada will be going to the Czech Republic in May to defend its gold medal.

Paramedics Chris Kirwan, Lance Huver, Mike Filiault and Shawn May will be trying to repeat as gold medalists at the World Paramedic Competition May 27.

Kirwan says training is going well.

"We do a lot of training with allied agencies learning how to do advanced skills, we've also learned a few out of the box scenarios and situations that we might encounter and have learned to handle those well," says Kirwan.

Kirwan thanks all the sponsors who have supported the team.

Kirwan says the training is intense.

"How to do some advanced medical procedures like...emergency airways. We've been learning some techniques with a few guys who are experts in that," he says.

Kirwan says his team loves what it does.

"All of us are really, really passionate about what we do," he says. "We all love being paramedics and we all love representing our area and our country and we all love competing, we all have very competitive edges and we're all very driven to do what we do."
