Starved Dog Found In Windsor

The Windsor Essex Humane Society is looking for information about a deceased dog found near an abandoned building in Windsor.

The dog was found at a building on the corner of Louis and Cataraqui by a member of the public who called the humane society. Based on a necropsy it's believed the dog had been there for some time, possibly several months. Veterinary findings indicate the dog was starved to death over a period of time.

Melanie Coulter with the Humane Society says this is a horrifying case of abuse, not a stray dog who could not find food for himself.

"This was starvation that occurred over a period of weeks at least. That means he was provided with some amount of food and there's no way that this dog was in that populated of an area without someone noticing him," says Coulter. "When there's a stray dog out there, we generally get multiple calls."

The humane society believes he likely died in another location and his body was disposed of at the abandoned building.

The dog is an unneutered male, medium sized, pitbull type dog about four years of age. He was wearing a choke chain collar.

The humane society is looking for any information about who may have owned the dog and they are offering a $500 reward.
