There are 40 new Canadian citizens after a citizenship ceremony was held in Leamington Wednesday.
The people came from over a dozen different countries including Columbia, Iraq and Mexico.
Omeila Damkha from Iraq says this is an extremely proud day for her.
"I came here to Canada from a terrorist country, so being Canadian is something special for me and I feel proud that I am Canadian," says Damkha, adding that she has big hopes for her future. "I'm Canadian -- I can say that loudly. I'm Canadian and I can study as much as I can."
New citizen Admon Oshana also has high hopes.
"I want to continue my studies, to get my PHD to do the best for Canada because it is my country so I want to do something the best for it," says Oshana.
This citizenship ceremony was held in special honour as Canada is celebrating its 150th year in 2017.
