Blackburn Radio Joins 400 Other Stations In New Streaming App

More than 400 radio stations across Canada are now available for download in a new live-streaming app that launches Wednesday, March 1.

Radioplayer Canada joins Canada's public broadcasters with a consortium of private radio stations, and more are joining every week.

It will allow fans of Blackburn Radio stations like Cool FM in Windsor and Chatham, The One in Wingham, Classic Rock Free 98.1 in London, and CHOK in Sarnia to access programming on their smartphone.

"Blackburn Radio is excited to be a part of the Radioplayer Canada family," says Blackburn Radio Operations Director Walter Ploegman. "We are proud to work with our partners and new technologies on this world class app to ensure radio continues to be relevant and easily accessible to our listeners wherever and whenever they need it."

The app is free and allows listeners to access both live and catch-up radio broadcasts throughout the country on a smartphone, in the car and on a smartwatch.

BBC Radio joined forces with private radio broadcasters in the United Kingdom five years ago to launch the first Radioplayer app, and since then it has become the top-rated digital radio app in Europe.

Founder and Managing Director of Radioplayer UK Michael Hill says it's a proud moment.

"Radio faces amazing, yet technically challenging opportunities in cars, smartphones and among younger audiences," he says. "Joining the ever-growing Radioplayer family is a great way for broadcasters to address these together."
